Charging bays marked 'electric vehicle only', ready for an intensive-use fleet

Concept 1 of 2

LONGLIFE: vehicles built to last

The LONGLIFE concept develops extended lifetime electric vehicles for the most demanding use cases: taxis, delivery fleets and shared mobility services, where vehicles accumulate mileage several times faster than private cars.

Instead of accepting that intensive use means early retirement, LONGLIFE designs the powertrain to keep going: durable materials, components that can be repaired at module level, and continuous health monitoring that catches degradation before it becomes failure.

Four innovation streams push the same powertrain 50% beyond a standard lifetime.

Key innovations

  • New materials for extended lifetime
  • Modularity and repairability
  • E-motor and storage system monitoring & control
  • Smart, predictive maintenance

The life of a LONGLIFE vehicle

  1. Design

    Built modular from the start

Battery, e-motor and power electronics are conceived as replaceable modules, with materials selected for extended lifetime.

  2. In service

    Intensive duty

Taxis, delivery fleets and mobility services accumulate mileage several times faster than private cars.

  3. Monitoring

    Health tracked continuously

The e-motor and storage system are monitored and controlled in real time; smart maintenance intervenes before failure.

  4. Repair

    Modules swapped, not packs

When a component weakens, only that module is replaced and the vehicle stays in service.

  5. Result

    +50% lifetime

The same vehicle keeps delivering value, years longer than the state of the art.

The outcome

A vehicle whose cost-effectiveness improves with every kilometre: lifetime extended by 50%, more value delivered per euro invested, and fewer vehicles manufactured (and scrapped) for the same mobility service.

The second RELiVE concept takes the opposite path to the same goal: building affordable powertrains from components that already lived a first life.

Frequently asked questions

What is the LONGLIFE concept?
LONGLIFE is one of the two RELiVE vehicle concepts: a vehicle with a heavily extended lifetime, designed so that its powertrain lasts 50% longer than the state of the art.
Who is LONGLIFE designed for?
Intensive-use cases where mileage accumulates fastest: taxis, delivery fleets and shared mobility services.
How does LONGLIFE extend vehicle lifetime?
Through four innovation streams: new materials for extended lifetime, modularity and repairability, continuous monitoring and control of the e-motor and storage system, and smart predictive maintenance.
